Zaragoza, September 8, 2026. GLS Spain today inaugurated its new regional hub in Zaragoza, a state-of-the-art logistics facility that strengthens the company’s operational network across northeastern Spain and responds to the growing demand driven by e-commerce. The opening ceremony was attended by local authorities and brought together more than 100 guests, including GLS customers and partner agencies, who had the opportunity to experience first-hand the technological and operational capabilities of the new facility.
This project represents an investment of €21 million and will support a workforce of nearly 100 employees, reinforcing the company’s commitment to creating stable, skilled, and future-oriented jobs. Through this investment, GLS Spain reaffirms its commitment to Zaragoza and the Aragon region, contributing to local economic development and employment growth.
Located in PLAZA (Zaragoza Logistics Platform), one of the most important logistics hubs in Southern Europe, the new facility has been developed in collaboration with Montepino under a turnkey model.
The site occupies a 21,500 m² plot and includes a 7,400 m² warehouse and 950 m² of office space distributed across two floors. Its strategic location provides direct access to the A-2 (Madrid–Barcelona), A-23 (Valencia) and AP-68 (Bilbao) motorways, further consolidating Zaragoza’s position as a key logistics gateway for national connectivity.
The inauguration event, held at the new facility, was attended by Octavio López, Regional Minister for Housing, Public Works, Logistics and Territorial Cohesion of the Government of Aragon, and Fernando A. Beltrán Blázquez, Government Delegate of Spain in Aragon, among other authorities.
Roberto Martínez, Managing Director of GLS Spain, commented during the institutional visit:
"The opening of this new hub in Zaragoza is a key milestone in our growth strategy and our commitment to service excellence. This new facility, with the capacity to process up to 16,000 parcels per hour, allows us to increase both capacity and efficiency in a strategic location such as Zaragoza, which plays a vital role within our national infrastructure network. The new hub will also provide significant support to our partner agency network and local entrepreneurs, who are an essential part of GLS’s operating model in Spain. With this investment, we aim to strengthen Zaragoza’s and Aragon’s position as strategic locations within our network, ensuring that both large companies and SMEs can benefit from faster and more efficient logistics and transport services."
For his part, the Regional Minister for Housing, Public Works, Logistics and Territorial Cohesion of the Government of Aragon thanked GLS for its commitment to Aragon and PLAZA. Octavio López highlighted that the company’s new logistics centre:
"Fits perfectly within the PLAZA ecosystem, the leading logistics platform in Southern Europe, where the industry’s most prominent companies choose to establish and expand their operations."
López also noted that logistics currently accounts for 7.7% of the regional GDP, supports more than 1,000 companies, and generates 36,000 direct jobs in Aragon.
"This is achieved through strong foundations and developments capable of attracting companies such as GLS, whose expansion will allow the workforce at its new facilities to grow to nearly 100 employees."
The regional minister also stated that: "The logistics of the future will be more digital, more automated, more connected and also more sustainable," adding that "This new GLS facility at PLAZA is an excellent example of the transformation currently taking place across the sector."
Capacity, Automation and Operational Efficiency
From an operational standpoint, the new hub incorporates three automated sorting systems with a total processing capacity of 16,000 parcels per hour. This will help increase productivity, improve transit times and strengthen network resilience during peak demand periods.
The facility has been designed to optimize operational flows, ensuring efficient loading and unloading processes while facilitating coordination between different transport modes. As a result, parcel sorting capacity is enhanced and delivery times are improved, further reinforcing the company’s commitment to service quality.
